3D World in the palm of you hand

Merge Cube offers and entirely new way of interacting with the digital world. It allows students to explore digital 3D objects from various fields.

Thanks to Merge Cube, you can hold the galaxy in the palm of your hand, explore ancient fossils and artificats, look inside the DNA, traverse the Earth core, dissect a frog or create your own 3D objects to share with others.

This and much more is now possible thanks to Merge Cube.

Hold the digital world in your hands

Merge Cube is a physical augmented reality learning tool that allows students to hold and explore digital 3D objects in their own hands.

Using the camera of a compatible device, a virtual model appears directly on the Cube. Students can rotate it, move it closer and inspect it from different angles as naturally as if they were holding a real object.

From observation to active exploration: instead of looking at a static image on a screen, students gain an interactive 3D model that supports spatial understanding, discussion and visual learning.

How does Merge Cube work?

The surface of the original Merge Cube contains visual tracking patterns that are recognised by the camera of a compatible device using computer vision technology. The software then positions a digital 3D object precisely on the Cube.

This creates a combination of physical interaction and digital content. Instead of controlling a model only with a mouse or touchscreen, students simply rotate and move the Cube itself.

  • view objects from every angle,
  • explore spatial relationships and structures,
  • actively manipulate models instead of only observing them,
  • share discoveries and observations with classmates.

Why Merge Cube works so well in education

Merge Cube combines the clarity of a hands-on learning aid with the possibilities of digital 3D content. It is particularly useful when students need to understand shape, structure, position or relationships between individual parts.

Visual 3D learning

Abstract, microscopic, very large or otherwise inaccessible objects can be explored as spatial models rather than only as pictures in a textbook.

Active engagement

Students hold the object, rotate it and choose their own viewing angle, connecting learning with movement, interaction and practical exploration.

Classroom collaboration

A single model can support observation, group discussion, hypothesis building or collaborative presentation of findings.

Create your own 3D content

With the appropriate Merge tools, schools can also work with their own 3D objects and connect Merge Cube with design, prototyping and wider STEM projects.

3D content that goes beyond the screen

Merge Cube turns an ordinary digital model into something students can physically manipulate. This is especially valuable for topics that are difficult or impossible to demonstrate using a real object in the classroom.

Merge Cube is part of the wider Merge 3D environment

Merge brings its educational and creation tools together in the web-based Merge 3D Dashboard. Depending on the selected licence, schools can use Merge Cube not only to explore 3D objects, but also for science simulations, Earth data and student-created content.

Merge EDU Suite

Designed primarily for teaching, exploration and working with ready-made educational content.

  • Merge Content,
  • Object Viewer,
  • Explorer,
  • HoloGlobe and real Earth data.

Merge Creator Suite

Adds tools for creating, editing and importing custom digital 3D content.

  • Object Viewer,
  • Builder,
  • AI Object Generator,
  • Uploader and 3D Scanner.

Merge 3D Platform

The complete option combines the EDU Suite and Creator Suite for schools that want students to both explore and create 3D content.

  • teaching and simulations,
  • interactive 3D objects,
  • content creation,
  • school-level access and management.
Important: Merge Cube is a physical learning tool. The range of available digital content and features depends on the active Merge 3D licence and the current availability of individual tools.

One environment for multiple devices

The new generation of Merge 3D is designed as a web-based platform. This simplifies deployment in schools and reduces the need to install, distribute and maintain several separate applications.

Merge supports a broad range of devices, including Mac and Windows computers, Chromebooks, iPads and smartphones.

  • a centralised Merge 3D Dashboard,
  • content and creation tools accessible from one place,
  • greater flexibility for school IT environments,
  • Cube Mode uses the camera of a compatible device.

Before deploying Merge in your school

We recommend checking the specific devices you intend to use. Individual Merge 3D interaction modes may have different technical requirements, and Cube Mode requires a camera capable of reliably tracking the Cube.

According to current Merge materials, the dedicated 3D scanning tool remains focused on compatible iPhone and iPad devices.

Licensing options for different school environments

Merge provides different deployment models based on student numbers, device usage and the needs of each school. This means you can start with a focused implementation and expand later.

LAB

Shared learning stations

Ideal for libraries, makerspaces, STEM labs and other shared-device environments that need simple access for multiple users.

CLASS

One class or pilot project

A suitable starting point for one teacher and one class, allowing a school to pilot Merge before expanding its implementation.

COURSE

Multiple classes or a course

Designed for several groups, semester-long programmes and situations where individual student tracking is required.

SCHOOL-WIDE

Whole-school deployment

For wider implementations with teacher and student accounts, administrative controls and room to expand beyond a single classroom.

Merge Cube and a Merge 3D licence are not the same thing

When planning a school deployment, it is important to distinguish between the physical Cube itself and the digital platform and licensing that provide access to content and additional features.

Merge Cube

The physical Cube is made from soft foam and acts as a precisely tracked AR marker for Cube Mode.

It allows students to hold a virtual 3D object in their hands and interact with it naturally.

Merge 3D licence

The licence determines the range of available content, creation tools, student accounts and classroom management features.

Schools can select the EDU Suite, Creator Suite or the complete Merge 3D Platform depending on their educational goals.
